I think she should retire so she can spend more time with her family.
Just in time for the Senate to have 53 Republicans!

Hard to believe she could hang on for another year in this condition - I mean just staying alive, not functioning as a supreme court justice.
Trump and the Republicans have two more years to go but what I mean by "another year" is referring to the precedent of not nominating a supreme court justice in the last year of a presidency.
Given what we just went through in the battle to win a 5-4 majority with Kavanaugh it will be interesting to see what happens when Trump tries to make it 6-3. Should be very entertaining.

I think this is her third round since the 90s.

Gotta wait for the final path diagnosis. I'm a bit puzzled about how you can say a nodule is "cancerous" without a full pathology report. I suspect a bit of confabulation has occurred, just to make the story more interesting. The lung nodules with the negative cancer screen could well turn out to be just another "incidentaloma".

The doctor who obtained the biopsy sample for my wife's lung cancer didn't bother to wait for the full pathology report before informing me that "it doesn't look good". I figured he had probably seen these things a time or two before and I knew exactly what he was trying to say.
She lasted only 8 months with both chemotherapy and radiation treatment and was only 50 at the time. Hard to imagine they would even consider this level of treatment for an 85 year old woman - without which the average survival time was about 2 months back then - at least for metastatic SCLC which is extremely aggressive.

The good news...
* It looks like they caught this very early.
* All of the medical bulletins are optimistic.
On the other hand...
* Lung cancer is highly aggressive and tends to come back.
* She is is 85 with a history of serious health issues.
Prayers for her recovery.

My understanding is that the procedure she just underwent was a lobectomy. That's a pretty big deal. I inferred from this that a biopsy had previously been done and that the diagnosis was made some time before we ever heard about it. Am I wrong here?

The fact that she had a lobectomy tells me it was probably NSCLC (non-small cell lung cancer - the kind not linked to smoking) which isn't as aggressive as SCLC and has a higher long term survival rate.
Not a doctor, BTW. Just someone with more knowledge about lung cancer than I ever wanted to know.
Update: I couldn't find anything indicating which type of lung cancer it is but I did find this interesting tidbit....
Ginsburg, the Supreme Court's oldest justice, previously underwent treatment for colorectal cancer in 1999 and she was treated for pancreatic cancer in 2009.

If she had pancreatic cancer ten years ago and is still among the quick, I think I will ask the dear lady to buy y lottery tickets for me.

No kidding. She should donate her body to science to both study why she got three different types of cancer and how she managed to survive them.

Ah, jeez. That’s awful news. He’ll be in my prayers for sure, and I wish him the absolute very best.
