What does everyone go with as far as the number of stock funds in the PP? Right now i just have 1 fund, EQAL a Russell 1000 Equal Weight ETF. Do most of you just do one fund or do you add in Emerging Markets, Small Cap Intl etc?

I went exclusively with VTI where available when I got into the PP because I think that was the recommendation in the book. If you have to start thinking about small cap/mid-cap,whatever cap and international allocations, etc, it's getting too complicated which goes against the philosophy. When I went with the Golden Butterfly I had to pick out one SCV fund and I'm sticking with that too.

VTI, mainly. VBR for small caps.

Also VINEX for Int'l and VFIAX (limited in 401k choice)

Totals 35% so I go heavier on stocks and lower on cash.

One or two stock funds per account: total market and (in two cases) small cap value.

Personally, I pair VTI with VB to spread my stock money evenly across large/mid/small and value/blend/growth. You can think of my overall portfolio as a Golden Butterfly variant, or you could also think of it as 80% PP with a 20% small cap VP. For a core PP you really only need VTI, SPY, or something else along that line.

I go 12.5% SP500, 12.5% Vanguard Small Cap (not to be confused with SCV).

Edited to say: Oh it seems like you and I are doing the same thing, Tyler.

Edited again to say: But I have to give credit to MachineGhost for the idea.

When I started PP I used VTI.

25% VTI (Total Stock Market)
25% TLT (Long Term Treasuries)
25% SHY (Short Term Treasuries)
25% IAU (Gold)
