Basic income again

It's still not clear to me whether this is a good idea or not, but Scott Alexander makes a pretty funny case for it--or at least against typical education:

From a fairness perspective, it is certainly better than welfare.

To me the main point of the (quite fascinating) article is the education points, not so much the basic income ones. I don't think the math would work out anything like what he describes, but it's extremely interesting to think about.
