An airline pilot told me once that TSA took away his nail-clippers. Of course, he could've flown the plane into a skyscraper. They didn't take away his plane.

Oh, it gets better. Now I remember. He's a pilot certified to carry a gun onto the plane. So they took his nail-clippers, but he got to keep his pistol and his plane.

Last time I went through Miami, they told us to forget bins and just empty our pockets into our carry ons. Everything still got scanned, and maybe they were in a rush.
Some years ago, I had a similar experience to OP Pug's. Except that a TSA guy yelled at us, "You don't have to take off your shoes. Don't you guys read the news?!" I wanted to tell him that I had to take off my shoes at the last airport (2 hrs before) and that he was a horse's ass, but I held back, wanting to just complete the trip.
