Do we have any sports fans on this board? Does anyone have opinions on the football season or the baseball winter leagues? Basketball? How good are the GS Warriors? Even hockey, eh?

I'm a sports fan, somewhere between a casual fan and a serious fan.  Definitely not a fanatic like some are, but I keep up with some of what's going on.

I'm in Indianapolis and follow the Colts, the Pacers a little bit, and of course auto racing, IndyCar in particular.  I'm also a big fan of the Dallas Stars in the NHL (they are having an outstanding year so far).

Speaking of the GS Warriors, they were just here in Indy last night and beat the Pacers.  Complete sell-out, even the standing room only tickets.  A local sports writer said they were really something to see, like the Pyramids or the Taj Mahal, for whatever that's worth.  I guess they're the real deal.

How about you?

Sports are lame and so are the people who like them. ;)

Actually I'm a no-favorite team football watcher. I like watching the game when it is still a good game by the 4th quarter (close score) and no spinal cord injuries or traumatic brain injuries/concussions.

Yes I saw that Indy-GS game thinking that Indy might have a chance of stopping the Warrior's amazing winning streak.  But I was wrong.  They may never lose again.

Mets traded for 2B Neil Walker today so I guess that Daniel Murphy's days as a Met are over. I still think that they should sign Cespedes.

Lol! The NY football Giants are giving them a run for their money in the choking department.

At the end of the Winter Meetings the Mets signed SS Asdrubal Cabrera for 2 years and $16 million. So they have totally revamped their middle infield with fairly talented switch hitters. I still think that they need one big righthanded bat...Cespedes?

I've always been a big professional football fan but I've been noticing more and more lately that a 3 hour football game is about 10 minutes of actual on-field action sandwiched between what seems like hundreds of commercials. So mostly I just wait to see if a game is close and tune in for the fourth quarter.

Are you not a Blackhawks fan?  Tough to complain about their performance the last few years, though this season has been a little more of a struggle.

But you're right about the Bears!

I don't follow baseball much but I do love seeing a game in person at the ballpark.  Got to see the Cardinals stomp the Reds at Busch Stadium in late September... very cool experience.

It seems as if the Arizona Diamondbacks made the most waves at the Winter Meetings by signing P Greinke for was it over $200 million and also trading for P Shelby Miller. It looks like they are really going for it this year! Meanwhile the Yankees traded for a sorely needed second baseman Starlin Castro who is only 25 yrs old but already has a thousand major league hits.

Kristaps Porzingis, the 7'3'' Latvian first round pick of the Knicks looks like he will become a superstar if he stays healthy. Karl Anthony Towns is also playing incredible ball for the Timberwolves!

I only watch football when there is nothing else on but the Giants have been very disappointing blowing all of those games that they had won and will probably be replacing the coach soon I guess.

My home town football team is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We had our glory days around the turn of the century but they were painful to watch this year and last, even with the bright spot of Jameis Winston. I had to watch a normal football game with quality teams last night (Cincinnati vs Denver) to remind myself that it isn't normal to have a penalty/fumble/dropped pass every third or fourth play. I'm all for firing Lovie Smith.

When Tampa isn't doing well I root for the Patriots. I think Tom Brady is having a phenomenal year at age 38. I'm hoping the Patriots will go to the Super Bowl and win and Goodell will have to hand Brady the MVP trophy. You know Brady will be thinking "Deflate this, a**-hole". Priceless.

Yes Brady is incredible!

Speaking of the Pats, did you see them win the overtime coin toss and elect to kick off to the Jets? What a gift for us NY fans!

With the new overtime rules I think maybe it isn't such a bad strategy to elect to kick off, depending on the momentum of the game. It's a new rule but I can understand Bellicheck's decision. Pure statistics might very well prove him right in the future, just like it does for the PP.
