We Smashed Our Previous Record Today

The most online stat at the bottom of the page had never reached more than 29 before today.
Today, however, we nearly overwhelmed the server and smashed the prior record of 29 by reaching 33.
I think we are really having some amazing discussions here, and sometimes it almost seems like we are behind a pay wall--so far no jackasses, trolls or troublemakers.
One more thing to appreciate about Harry Browne is that his ideas bring together such an interesting and thoughtful group of people.

Interesting...I have always liked HB for being so smart on money, but am a bit tentative when it comes to Libertarian politics. How was the meeting?

Adam,
I went to the meeting to hear the speaker, not to get into the politics. The presentation was very insteresting. He summarized a law review article being published. The topic was the history & underpinnings of so-called "jury nullification", whereby juries determine innocence in criminal matters because the law is unjust. The group was fortunate to have a law professor present to the group.

New record today: 35 online.
The wave is building. Pretty soon we will be able to fill a school bus.

Are you able to tell how people get here in the first place (as in Google searches, etc.)? I'm quite curious about this. I got here after Googling "lazy portfolios," finding something somewhere in one of those results that mentioned the Permanent Portfolio, reading the Bogleheads threads, and following the reference there to here.

People don't find the site...the site finds them, when they are ready. It's like training with a Kung Fu master, or Yoda.

While that is very true, if you Google "permanent portfolio" we are normally on the first page of results.

Today we are also #4 on the Google search results for "permanent portfolio."

For google.co.uk it isn't even in the top 10 however.
Clive,
Would you consider putting a small sign in your yard with the web address to help publicize the site over there?

Lots of tire-kickers on a bad day. Does anyone recall if our previous records were on down days for equities also?

We also do well when gold is surging.

Also, the proportion of guests to members (3/1) seems high.
I suppose desperate times inspire desperate research.

I think that the keys to success with the permanent portfolio are as follows:
1. You have to find out about it (and determine whether it is right for you).
2. You have to have the guts to get started with it (and avoid the overwhelming desire to tweak it).
3. You have to have the discipline to stick with it and follow the rebalancing bands.
That's really all there is to it. I like to think we are helping people with all three of these phases.
I also find that the PP attracts a really interesting group of people.
