I think that is a bit alarmist. After all, who says they will necessarily grab it if it is deposited?
Not that I would do so if I lived there, of course.

They don't use gold as money over there but for some really over the top fetish for weddings, dowries and gifts.  Monetizing all those shiny, useless, barbarous lumps of jewelry could invorigate their moribund, post-socialist economy by increasing liquidity for risk taking.
