Hello,

I've been far and not looking to anything about markets. That's what I learnt that we should do.

Now I found PP falling very quickly.

Please let me know what is happening.

:o

Frugal -

For US investors the answer, for the most part, is here:

http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=%5ET ... ange":"6mo"}

The long bond yield dropped from about 2.75% on 1/1 to 2.25% on 1/30. It has since gone up to 3.11%. Otherwise, gold is down about 2% YTD and stocks are up about 1.5%. Haven't checked all the European numbers but that is the story here in the US.

Long bonds are really volatile at low yields, both upward and downward.

For the European Investor YTD

Stocks: YTD +16%
Long Bonds: -3%  (lost 19% of NAV in one month).
Gold: + 8%

Frugal,

What is that chart supposed to represent? PP performance? Stock performance? Something else?

Hey Frugal,

Very interesting to see how the European PP has done this year. Here in the US we are down just over 1% YTD. You can see the YTD numbers here on peaktotrough.com:

http://www.peaktotrough.com/hbpp.cgi

The USPP went up over 4% in January and has not been doing great since then, mostly due to bond prices going down (interest rates up). Looks like the European PP was strong through the middle of April and has given up some gains since then.

This link shows the recent USD to Euro relationship:

http://exchange-rates.org/history/EUR/USD/T

Looks like the European PP has been going down as the Euro has gotten stronger, and that it was going up earlier in the year as the Euro lost strength against the dollar. Hmm. I can't remember but do you hold some of your assets besides gold in US Dollars?

Hi,

no I don't have USD assets.

Why?

Thank you.

I only asked because your portfolio's performance seemed to be more or less the inverse of the performance of the Euro versus the USD this year.

In other words, when the dollar was getting stronger, your European PP was also doing well & now that the Euro is getting stronger your PP is taking a hit. I guess it is just a coincidence.

Thanks for sharing your data. It's always interesting to see if this portfolio works in different places.

Thanks Frugal. I figured that would be the case. Didn't know you could do that in Google fiance though.

Overall the portfolio is still up 5% YTD.

Long bonds - 25% of their highs.
Large cap stocks depending on what index are - 5% to - 10% of their highs.
Think gold is down 5% down as well.  I am not sure.
