For those who earn more, though, paying U.S. taxes when you have only a tenuous connection to the States must be infuriating.
When I taught English overseas, I made very little money, but still had to report back to the States. Annoying.

Nope, my dad took care of it back then. Come to think of it, I was young and he was the stickler making me report it.

Yeah, my accountant brother-in-law did the same for me when I was working overseas a lot in the 1980s. Some crap about tax compliance and yadda yadda yadda.

Seriously, Quicken TurboTax costs $95. 

These people are such wimps, so it's not exactly a brain drain.

It's cognitive dissonance because they just dont "want to deal".  Wah, wah, wah...

Thanks for the heads up.  I did mean TurboTax Premier offline.  I'm in the Advantage plan but now I see they're offering it for less direct and also lowered the retail price so I'm not getting a deal at all for $98.  It's even less at Amazon!  Man, I knew I loathed Intuit, but not this bad!  ... I just spent almost $5 to send it back -- signature required -- for a refund.

I should have known better than to trust a corporation I loathe at its word.
