Water Filters

So after my water discussion, I think Im going to make the plunge and get a system. I like things that are simple, transportable, and don't require plumbing hookups etc.
I was looking at solid carbon block filters....specifically these:
http://www.berkeyfilters.com
Recognized by the EPA as the best option for removing chemicals like herbicides, pesticides and VOCs. Quality carbon block filters will remove chemicals, pesticides, bacteria, fluoride (with filter attachment), heavy metals, nitrate, nitrites and parasites. Most are gravity based and can safely transform any type of water into safe drinking water including rain water, pond water and even sea water
Anyone care to give their two cents?

I assume you mean the Go Berkey Kit? Berkey is very expensive, but top notch. I'd get the optional flouride filter. The eternal hassle of filling it up has to be considered.

Recognized by the EPA ... the same organization that says your tap water is sufficient. Oh the irony! LOL

We have a Berkey, and keeping it filled up isn't a significant nuisance.
We tried the black filters but they all failed and we had to return them; apparently there is/was some problem in the manufacturing, which is too bad because they are a lot better when they work.
So we went back to the old white filters, which take the chlorine out of the tap water. This is mostly a problem in the summer, when our municipal water supply company adds a LOT of chlorine due to the algae that tend to grow in the lakes where they get the water.
I'm sure the tap water is safe but it tastes pretty bad in the summer. The Berkey fixes that problem very nicely.
