Modified Rick Ferri portfolio vs Permanent portfolio

Any comments on this portfolio would be welcome.  I backtested it to 1972 and CAGR was over 11%

30%  VTI    Total Stock Market
15%  VXUS  Total international
15%  VGLT  Long bond
10%  VBR    Small cap value
10%  VNQ    REIT
10%  VTIP  Short term tips
  5%  Gold
  5%  VWO  Emerging markets

I used to follow the mantra, supported by a number of Bogleheads,  that "REITS are an allocation distinct from equities." Then came 2008.  >:(
