Actually, doesn't that mean the PP was previously in buy mode, probably for the last year or so?

With stocks creeping toward 35% share again, I want to rebalance. But I have new cash, which means buying more stocks. It's a headscratcher. I may have to fall in with the 'buy the lagging assets' crowd. In that case, though, the pp is always a buy.

I'm much more of a fundamentals guy. Where I am technical, it is more along the lines of assuming reversion to a mean for the PP, which is kind of a mix of technical/fundamental mindset.
Our negative year was no surprise. The returns of the PP in the face of low interest, modest stock market earnings, low GDP growth and low inflation needed adjustment. They were huge. I always like the PP, but wasn't going to think it was a "great buy" until a couple years of very modest returns occurred.

I'm glad to see hints here that the PP is doing well this year. About this time last year it was much different.
After re-balancing from stocks into gold and LT's I made a resolution not to look until the same time next year. And since things appear to be going well since making my resolution I promise not to look too close. Obviously looking too closely is a contributing factor to performance.

Cool thing about the PP: one of the assets is always in "buy" mode. That's the "buy the lagging asset" strategy which works reasonably well and has the side benefit of minimizing the need to rebalance and incur a big tax bill.
The trouble is that at the time when said asset is at its best sale price, it takes a lot of cajones to buy it! It may be easier to set up an auto-invest program that buys each asset equally. That strategy gives better performance and keeps you from having to look at the portfolio too often. I do this with 3 of the 4 assets and let extra contributions pile up in cash, with the idea of buying gold only as called for during a rebalance. You could instead use GTU as an accumulator for gold, but I got too annoyed with the fees & paperwork and ditched the idea.

I just like how, for all the stressing you CAN put yourself through with the PP and timing, if you allow yourself, when the SHTF, you'll as much as almost anyone else, feel like you have something to fall back on.
