This is a very interesting news story to me because on my last trip to the Philippines a few years ago we left JFK at night and I was surprised that in a few hours it was broad daylight outside. So I Looked at the in-flight map showing our position and I realized we were flying a north to south route, practically across the north pole and then down through Siberia and mainland China before landing in Hong Kong. I had made this trip quite a few times since my days in the Navy but we always went East to West for reasons that were obvious back then. Flying across Russian and then Chinese airspace could get you killed.

When it's that time of the month for my (Chinese) wife, I joke about staying clear of her Air Defense Zone. But never directly to her.

Filipinas have a custom called Tampo where they just shut you out cold and act like you don't exist. I always thought that was an interesting name for it since you can just add add an 'n' to the end of it to figure out when it is most likely to happen.

I stick with the Shark Week jokes.  She still thinks I'm talking about the Discovery Channel.  LOL.
