Gyroscopic Investing

Steve Liesman on CNBC just said take a look around the table tomorrow and count the members of family and friends that are actually productivly employed vs. not....or something to that effect. The panel kind of agreed that ratio has certainly shifted over the years. Of course for older folks it's more likely that family is older and retired.

Me - Working (but not for long!)
Wife - Retired
First-Born Son - Working
Youngest Son - Job seeking (employed prior to September).

They were discussing the economy and the state of employment. They were making predictions about the final unemployment rate at the end of the year and the new jobless claims were about to come out. It's a financial news network. I agree he's sometimes obnoxious with his defense of the FED and the government but I don't think he was trying to say turn the Holiday into an personal economic experiment.

Ohhh that's what this guy Steve Liesman said on the air. He's a financial reporter on CNBC, usually on Squawk Box in the morning. If you read the post I said Steve Liesman (not my name) said take a look around your dinner table tomorrow (I think he's assuming you'll have more people than usual there) and count how many are working vs. not. He was talking to the rest of the anchors. The all agreed the ratio is a lot different than it was in previous years. I thought it was an interesting comment.

Evidently you disagree. There's no need to get nasty and personal about it though.

I'm not sure I understand why the opening post, the quoted article, or anything posted by Kshartle in this thread was "nasty."  Did I miss something here?  I thought this was a forum for open, civil discussion of economics, among other topics.  Not that I have a comment either way about his article, personally.

While I do get the impression that kshartle isn't thankful for enough , I too am a bit perplexed at Tenn's interpretation of his post.
