Natural Gas

There are a couple of companies that I've read about recently that are trying to take advantage of low natural gas prices.

There's one called Westport Innovations (WPRT) which basically enables diesel engines to run on Natural Gas.  There's another called Clean Energy Fuels (CLNE), founded by T. Boone Pickens that is laying infrastructure to fuel vehicles (especially semis) with natural gas.

Both companies have good stories. Neither is profitable yet.

My question:  Does anyone think that natural gas projects like these will be great ideas that never worked out for whatever reason, or do you guys think they will in fact work?

The real question is whether natural gas will remain as cheap in the future as it is today.

If natural gas were to remain this cheap, I'm sure we will find all sorts of interesting and profitable uses for it.

Yeah, that's the thing.

There's little point in a trucking company investing in these technologies if they're just going to cause the price of natural gas to go through the roof, making them unaffordable.
