Outrageous AR-15 deal

Just got an email from Del-Ton about a promotion for an AR-15 rifle kit (I'm not affiliated with them):
http://www.del-ton.com/ProductDetails.a ... ode=RKT116
This kit is $450 and comes with everything you need to build a complete AR-15 except the lower receiver ($70) and rear sight ($50). It even includes a 30-round PMAG! Del-Ton is a respected mid-tier seller, not some fly-by-night operation. This is one of the best deals I've seen in a long time. You could spend a lot more money and do a lot worse. Get it while it's hot!

What do I do with this? I live in CA. Wait until the zombie apocalypse?

I live in CA as well and I have one of these. They're a heck of a lot of fun to shoot and they're great for home defense. So you would do with an AR-15 the same kinds of things you might do with other guns.

But they don't ship the 30 round mag to CA, right? Aren't you worried they will just make these illegal (it's happened before, yes?)

You can have them substitute a 10-round magazine.
And I have no doubt that California would like nothing less than to throw AR-15 owners like me in jail for the rest of our lives, and they try every year with a slew of ridiculous bills. They're coming pretty close this year, in fact. It might pass. But the more they overreach, the more likely the supreme court will smack them down. And if they don't, and all three branches of government become complicit in tyrannical behavior, well, we'll have our AR-15s, right?

A semi-automatic AR-15 type rifle?
I don't know when that has ever been illegal.
If it continues to be the weapon of choice for psychotic mass murderers something might change, but even then I would envision more of a ban on new production, as opposed to a ban involving confiscation from current owners.
Lots of gun owners out there who vote. Politicians respect them.
The AR-15 type rifles are very nice weapons. Lightweight, almost no recoil, balanced, reliable and accurate. Shooting them is a lot of fun.

That's a nice deal, PS! It's been several years since I built my AR so I haven't looked in a while, but $70 looks like a pretty good price for a lower receiver, too. Where do you source those? May have to call up my FFL guy and see whether he's still doing business.
Also, what do you like for that low-price rear sight?
Even if you include the FFL transfer fee for the stripped lower ($25?), you've got to like the idea of a nice AR for under $600 ($450 + $70 + $50 = $570 + FFL transfer). Ammo, however, is a different story entirely.
Disclaimer: All of my past, present, and future AR-15 purchases have been/will be lost in an unfortunate series of boating accidents.

Looks like lower prices have gone up due to the scare of early 2013, but here's one for $80:

In the past I've seen lowers going for $70 at gun shows, but those days probably aren't coming back for a loooong time.
As for rear sights, you can never go wrong with this one. $50 and free shipping!

Thanks, dude! You're really on top of this stuff.
Ahh, all of this talk is making me want to go shoot...

I haven't looked at the link, but can you get this in an HBAR setup?

Heavy barrel. For me, it makes the rifle feel more balanced and the barrel doesn't heat up as much when you are shooting a lot of rounds.
I also think that under "zombie shredding" types of conditions, a heavy barrel is less likely to be damaged.

Out of stock. That didn't last long. My wife would probably give me the evil eye if I bought another AR right now anyway.

It's back, and this time it's an even better deal: $425 instead of $450, and now it's a lightweight rifle kit instead of the slightly heavier previous one.

I've seen retail prices of S&W MP15 under $700.

SKS is a good CA option. Cheap, durable, reliable, cheap ammo, attached bayo
Ten round fixed mag. I own one, an AK-74 and a mosin and the SKS is my favorite shooter by far. You can upgrade the iron sights to what I consider better than an AR also for $65 at a company called Tech Sights.
Didn't mean to derail.
