In digital era, privacy must be a priority. Is it just me, or is secret blanket surveillance obscenely outrageous?
How is this not being challenged and struck down? Oh that's right, it's cloaked in secrecy so it can't be challenged. The kind of information that they are collecting is obviously not "tangible" and blatantly violates the, admittedly unconstitutional, Patriot Act. Even when they have an unconstitutional law to play with they can't even stick to the rules.The order, issued April 25 and valid through July 19, requires Verizon to turn over the numbers of both parties, location data, call duration, and other information – though not the contents of the calls.
Judge Roger Vinson’s order relies on Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act. That part of the law, also known as the “business records provision,”? permits FBI agents to seek a court order for “any tangible things (including books, records, papers, documents, and other items)”? it deems relevant to an investigation.
