Hi,
on which brokers can we make a US-PP (Harry Browne type) without paying any commissions?
Regards

In Vanguard, I pay no fees to trade their own ETFs, so EDV (zeroes), and VOO(S&P 500) or its mutual fund equivalents, VFINX/VFIAX.
I do pay to trade gold and SHY, though. Real treasuries trade for free.
In Fidelity, I pay for all trades except treasuries.

With Fidelity I use these commission-free funds:
ITOT (S&P Total U.S. Stock Market) STOCK MARKET
FSBIX (Fidelity Spartan treasuries) CASH
TLT (20+ Year Treasury Bond) BONDS

Schwab lets you make a totally commission-free portfolio in the following manner:
Stocks: SCHB
Bonds: TLO or individual bonds
Gold: SGOL
Cash: SCHO or individual bonds

TD Ameritrade has a selection of commission-free ETFs (VTI, TLT, etc.).

You trade TLT commission-free at Fido? I pay $7.95 per trade there. Maybe that is out of date, though. I haven't bought or sold it for a long while.

Fidelity now permits trading both TLT and SHY without commission.

The list includes several funds that could be used for the stock component well enough, so you could easily build a four ETF PP at Fidelity where three of the four components trade for no commission. I suppose I should explore that option and possibly replace VTI.

You can pretty much invest in the PP pretty much commission free at the following:
TDameritrade
Vanguard
Scottrade
Schwab
Most of those have one market or so that you do have to pay commissions for, but for the most part any of these US brokers will work well for the PP.

I would strike Scottrade and replace it with Fidelity. Scottrade's assortment of commission-free ETFs was always rather paltry and it looks like they've recently gotten rid of their program entirely.

Schwab is the only one that has the 4 assets for free, correct?
Is it Schwab the right choice?
Tks

You've asked this question frequently for a long time. Have you been avoiding the PP for all these months/years holding out for the perfect broker? Just bite the bullet and pick one. Did you realize that you can switch brokers quite easily at any time?

I have accounts with Scottrade, Vanguard and TDameritrade, and I really tend to like Scottrade the best. They don't have free ETF trades, but they have thousands of commission free mutual funds. I also do a fair amount of trading in my VP (half of my assets) and they have reasonable commissions for trading ETF's and stocks ($7).

at the end they will all be similar I guess
I'm looking for passive investing, but one day active investing may come, if i find a system

How do you easily change broker?
By opening an account at the new brokerage and initiating an ACH transfer of the funds from the old one to the new one. Easy as pie.

They have had this feature for a long time. The best part for you is that there are NO foreign transaction fees, which is not a common feature of US bank cards.
yes Schwab has free ETFs and FREE VISA CARD !
for now can't find better
