What car or truck do you drive?
We have 2 vehicles, a brand new 2013 Honda Accord Sport (black) which replaced my 10 yr old Toyota Avalon (a terrifically reliable car) that washed away in Superstorm Sandy. The other is a 2001 Honda Odyssey (just purchased with 132K miles) to transport things and replaces an 11 yr old GMC Safari ( a real lemon) which washed away as well.

A 1999 Dodge Stratus that we bought new in January 1999 from AAFES New Car Sales while stationed in Germany. It has less than 65k miles on it.
A 2006 Jeep Liberty Sport with 85k miles on it.
As the old saying goes, "Don't laugh....at least they are paid for!" And by the way, they both run well.

A Red 1998 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL. Should roll over 150,000 miles this week. Just a tad difficult car for me to carpool two other adults in it for driving to work.

One of the best cars of the '90's.

It is still an awesome car. A manual transmission no less. Although I bought it when I was 19. If I were to buy a car now I'd probably go a low 2000's Mitsubishi Mirage or something like that. Something a bit bigger with better gas mileage.

None.
I've never had so much as a parking ticket and I do keep a license, but I own no car and have not driven in a looooong time.

I don't own a car and haven't for a long time. I take whatever is on the rental lot or the Zipcar web page, unless it's red.

2005 Hyundai Elantra bought in 2005 and paid for in cash. I saw it on a list of cars capable of being driven for 300k miles. I am almost halfway there.

Not that I want to get off topic, but one nice thing about being the human engine of your vehicle is that you can refuel with an entire box of girl scout cookies and milk like I did last night.
I would consider getting a car, but I know that it would add at least 20 pounds to my mid section within a matter of weeks. Riding a bike as a mode of transportation can be less convenient and comfortable at times but it certainly has other benefits like allowing me to continue my college eating habits into my 30's
I would also be curious how many driving miles people here average every week. Also, what (if anything) would they change if gas prices were to rise to around 8 dollars a gallon which is what most of the rest of the world pays?

I drive 200-250 miles a week. If gas was $8 a gallon, I would ride my motorcycle to work as much as possible (2009 Suzuki V-Strom 650 ABS).

1996 Ford Ranger or 2004 Toyota Sienna, both bought new.
Haven't had a car payment since 2007 and that was also my first time financing a car. In 2004 they offered me 3% for 3 years buying the sienna. I couldn't turn down almost free money.
It is long past time to replace the Ford. I find myself seriously tempted by the 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT... And it is rated for about the same fuel economy as my Ford! Also the 2014 GC with the eco-diesel is tempting, but given the price of diesel almost the same cost per mile as the SRT. Most likely I'll do nothing unless I find a winning lottery ticket on the ground or experience similar investment returns on something.

We have an '04 Pontiac Vibe and a '11 Mustang GT convertible (fire engine red). Maybe 400+ horsepower is overkill, but taking a fast convertible out in the hill country on a beautiful spring day is a fantastic experience.

Louis Hyman's history of American credit, a book called
Borrow, explains how the whole credit system in the States evolved largely from GM and the American desire to own a car.
Sorry to drag finance into this fine forum. Continue. ;-)

My mustachian perspective would say to rent the Mustang a couple times a year and drive it like you stole it. For the rest of the year, being stuck in traffic or plodding from one traffic light to another is an identically crappy experience no matter what you happen to be sitting in.
