I don't usually post this kind of stuff, and I normally think cultural differences are endearing (as long as they don't involve hurting someone).

But seriously, wtf is going on in Japan?  I can understand thinking someone's beautiful without the need for perfect teeth, no problem.  I also prefer "normal" women to the surgically enhanced "beauties."  But to have a dental procedure in order to have a jacked up smile?

What the crap is up with that?

I'm not looking to bash Japanese culture, people in glass houses and all that...but I thought I'd see if anyone else had heard about this and hear some other impressions.

You ain't seen the half of it. How about the trend of injecting fluid beneath the skin to temporarily produce the effect of a subcutaneous donut?

We are an interesting species.  If nothing else, we'll give the aliens something to talk about when they show up.

We just do grillz and gold teeth in the USA. 

I think the Japanese have worked out a fairly standard formula:

1. Look at/think of anything.
2. Make it outrageously, terrifyingly extreme
3. Make porn of it
