Seems like an interesting interview. So far I just jumped through randomly to get an ideas what the talk was a bout and two things stood out immediately. 1) the obvious that Maria was very unpreofessional and 2) when I landed on the discussion of gold the audience was laughing when it was suggested they need ot hold gold. That is CFR, the org that acoord to? Hillary C. tells the whitehouse what the do, laughs at gold whils the dollar is being killed.

I so hope those baboons are all short gold.

I think they laughed when Dalio said anyone that didn't hold gold didn't understand history. They were laughing with him..IMO.

Wow... not only does he mention the 4 economic environments (as dcllee pointed out), but at around 51:15, he comes right out and recommends a diversified, risk-minimizing portfolio consisting of equities, bonds, gold, and cash. He doesn't say equal parts in each, but it's very close to the PP.

Good stuff!

Dalio is clearly a Harry Browne fan.  I just wish people would mention Harry Browne's name when talking about his ideas.

Maria is, as always, clueless.  At least she didn't start talking about "cash on the sidelines."

I blogged about this and have a link to the transcript posted:

https://web.archive.org/web/20160324133 ... io-theory/

I found a PDF describing their All Weather Strategy in some detail, but the link is no longer working and the download is corrupt. However reading the returns/risk they were almost identical to the Permanent Portfolio (at least over the last decade where the Permanent Portfolio might have actually eeked out a small CAGR advantage). Portfolio construction ideas were also similar, but they tend to use more global assets and some asset classes that I generally do not like (emerging market debt and perhaps even inflation protected bonds).

She's a bit like that AliG interview with GK Galbraith:

Looks pretty complicated.  Just use I-Bonds/E-Bonds for the T-Bills in HBPP and you'll beat it.
