Apparently the father of the Colorado shooter is a senior scientist at FICO, and is about to testify in front of congress on LIBOR. I'm not much for conspiracy theories, but this one sounds like it's right out of Prison Break...

I'm not understanding what the narrative/motive would be, for the conspiracy? Just seems like a random coincidence.

Is there any confirmation that this person was preparing to testify on LIBOR? I saw that asserted at the top of the article but didn't see any sourcing or follow-up. Was this just thrown in to make the story sound more tightly wrapped than it actually is?
And it sounds like he works on something related to credit cards and online banking fraud. That hasn't got much to do with LIBOR, does it?
Also, the article speculates that the perp was "programmed to kill". I read that as a claim of "mind control", technology which does not (yet) exist.
This smells very bogus to me.

You're right, I could not find anything linking Robert Holmes to actual testimony in front of Congress. Another good point, Wonk, is that FICO deals with consumer credit ratings, and really doesn't have much to do with inter-bank lending rates.
I think this conspiracy theory is totally incredible, however, it seems like this might have the staying power of something like the 9/11 truther movement, or the birther movement.
I just wanted to point out the funny things that people will believe, given enough questionable media input.

You're right! Conspiracy theories tickle just that right part of the brain that allows people to engage in fantasy without realizing that they are doing so. Fantasy is in general very healthy but only when one realizes that it's just that... fantasy!
I'm also very flattered that you thought I was Wonk. I must be sounding much smarter than usual!
