Story abbreviated below.

"Two Seattle men were recently pinched crossing the Canadian border, but the men weren't carrying guns or drugs -- they were packing illegal candy.  Brandon Loo and Christopher Sweeney were on a trip to Vancouver when they decided to bring home some treats for friends and family.  They bought Kinder Eggs. The chocolate eggs, which aren't available in America, come with a toy inside. Kinder Eggs are illegal in the United States and carry a $2,500 fine per egg....The men eventually got off with a warning. Last year alone, Customs and Border Protection seized 25,000 Kinder Eggs."

Nanny state at its finest.

Now LOOK, just hand over the chocolate eggs and nothing bad will happen to you.

Don't RESIST, sir!

Sometimes even if you don't resist, something bad will happen to you.

Now I feel lucky because I just got back from Germany and brought a few with me. Wonder how much that is really enforced for the fine.

Many years ago when I was in the Navy on my last deployment I stopped in a tobacco shop in the souk of Bahrain. On an impulse I purchased four boxes of cigars... the kind frowned on by our government.  For reasons which escape me I forgot to list them on the customs forms when entering the US.

I have long since given up smoking but thrust a good Havana under my nose and who knows what will happen. God save my bank account if they ever lift the embargo on Cuba.
