In an unusual ruling, the court set Edwards free, but sentenced his hair to 27 months in federal custody.

Edwards wishes his hair one final, sad goodbye:

"I'll write you every day.  You'll never be far from my mind...well, actually you will...but I will miss you terribly and I will ache for the day we can be reunited.  You're the only one who never let me down.  You are my alpha, omega and faithful provider of lush dome coverage."

This thread kind of reminds me of the trial of Imelda Marcos in NYC when her lawyer (Jerry Spence) argued that here in America we don't say that since she has 2,000 pairs of shoes, let's send her to prison for the rest of her life.

In this case it's like the lawyer said yes, he's a lying philandering, adulterous narcissistic, hair-primping politician but here in America we don't put people in prison just for that.

But maybe we should if they get as far as John Edwards did to running the whole show.

What's the difference...really...between Bill Clinton and John Edwards?

Clinton probably has a little higher IQ and better luck.

Clinton was a conservative communist.

Edwards was proposing radical communism and I think that is the big difference.

As for the blowjobs that went along with these two ideological positions I am not in any way qualified to speak.

The forum's resident, staunch Republican pops his head up once again in response to certain trigger keywords!  ;)

Seriously, what job did you do for the government, Reub?  Were you one of them there enfabled "bureaucrats"?

I'd say brains and political skill.  Both men are slick (and capable of, er, "ethical flexibility"), but Clinton always struck me as a very cunning, crafty guy.  I never saw those same flashes of brilliance in Edwards.  Even if you thought that Clinton was a total snake, it was hard not to be impressed by how skilled of a politician he is.

I may be a little biased because there are a lot of doctors in my family, all of whom really, really dislike John Edwards.

But gawd the hair on Edwards.  The finest locks since Rick Perry!

Using the moda sniff test... I really liked Bill Clinton, as politicians go.  I couldn't stand John Edwards.  However, now that you mention it, they do seem an awful lot alike in some ways.

Way back when, my first thought was that Edwards looked like a shyster or an upscale used car salesman, a slick caricuture that would have been at home in the mid-to-late 1800's, but not in the modern 2000's.

So how could anyone not see that and vote for him is beyond me.

Needless to say, none of the forthcoming revelations in the years afterwards surprised me one iota.  I am just surprised he got caught.

Name-calling? Really?
Totally uncalled for.

It wasn't name calling, it was a sarcastic comment based on another thread about invisible bureaucrats that I'm sure most have read.

Reub, however, doesn't seem to like to engage questions directed to him, so I was trying to draw him out.  He's quite an enigma around here!

On the offhand chance I offended at least Reub and you, I publically apologize.  I'll also put on my dunce cap, go to a corner and self-impose an exile period from the forum.

I might just take a few deep breaths and keep things moving forward.

I'm not offended in the least by your posts, Machine Ghost, so no exile is necessary. I enjoy these forums and the great posters that reside here. Much of what I say is tongue-in-cheek and I hope it is taken that way. As far as what I do as a federal govt worker I hope that I am far from a bureaucrat. I'm a soon to be retiring air traffic controller in a very busy radar facility in New York. After 29+ years at this job, the FAA has decided that I'm too old to continue working (age 56 is mandatory retirement), so I will be retiring and relying on the PP to protect me.

What a tough job.

Thanks for sharing that.

After seeing Season 2 of Breaking Bad, I concur on the apparent difficulty of this job... though using that show as a realism gauge might be a mistake.
