You might enjoy this podcast interview about investing in a permanent portfolio inside the Euro zone as an independent individual investor. It is an interview with Marc de Mesel, who runs the blog http://europeanpermanentportfolio.blogspot.com/. Marc talks about his experience applying the Permanent Portfolio strategy in a European context. He also provides his thoughts on speculating in gold and other precious metals.

Thanks for posting, it was really interesting to hear how a PP fits into investing in Europe at the moment.

Good discussion on the necessity of VP speculation to boost returns, although looking back over the last year I wouldn't have fancied my chances of beating PP returns.

Also nice to see Marc's blog supporting a healthly level of comments about the PP.

Thanks, I agree, the last year has been great for the PP. I'm a 100% PP person, but Marc's thoughts on why he's chosen 50% VP gave me a lot to mull over. I thought it was also really interesting to hear about his rationale for the choice of German bonds as opposed to an index of the whole Euro area.

Living in Syriƫ is bad
Losing investment money just brings you a litle bit back to the state in which you were born.
I started in 1986 and lost the first month 25 % of my investement. I was also sad and phoned my mother.
She just said; don't worry, you just learned the most important lesson in investing; you can lose
