Yahoo gave me a heart attack

I woke up this morning and was checking Yahoo Finance and I thought the financial world had just ended:

Needless to say, I checked GLD and SGOL and the price is actually higher than it was yesterday (in pre market trading).  Yahoo must have a serious bug in their system when the price of gold can lose 12.22% overnight...

Gold can lose 12% overnight, and it probably will at some point. However if gold drops 12% overnight, I'm willing to bet stocks will be up at least 8% overnight. That's why we invest in the PP. The assets can drop 12% overnight, but the overall portfolio will not.

Gee Storm,
Guess you missed the news that S & P upgraded US debt to AAAA+ last night.

Anybody else notice Yahoo Finance didn't report CEF or GTU prices all day today?  Any speculation what that was about? They've finally posted a closing price for GTU, but still show CEF's price as N/A.

Weird.

I noticed the same non-update on CEF, on both Yahoo & Google Finance.  I used the google finance formula in a private google online spreadsheet to track my Perm Port, & they aren't updating the data.

all other tickers I have ARE updating normally in my google spreadsheet.

My guestimate: Perhaps this is related to CEF trading on the AMEX exchange?  My other tickers SGOL, & Vanguard ETFs like EDV, VBR, etc; all seem to trade on the NYSE exchange.  At least this what google finance website says, at the top of the page, if you do an individual ticker quote.

If anyone knows more about this CEF no-quote issue, pls chime in, thx in advance :0

fyi: The CEF fund company website updates the price once daily

I really can't see gold losing 12% in one day... HEADLINE: "World's Problems Fixed! Golden Age Inevitable!"

Prosperity takes time to build (stairs up), but it can unravel overnight (elevator down). Gold is inverse, therefore I don't see it ever making that huge of leaps down, outside of incredible, unexpected, massive rate jumps.

It lost around 20% from July 11th 2008 to August 15 2008, and certainly no one thought the world's problems were fixed then.

It's very hard to predict what will happen with gold b/c of its split personality...monetary metal vs. commodity.

I don't know if this is related or not, but GTU uses the London Price to determine NAV, etc.  There was a British bank holiday at the end of August.  Perhaps that may have played a role.
