Crypto (IBIT) Vs. Gold (IAUM): Which Is The Better Hedge?

Summary
Trade wars and geopolitical uncertainty have caused U.S. stocks to slide as investors adjust to President Trump’s rapid shifts in tariff policy.
Commodity ETFs can help hedge against inflation, provide extra stability in volatile markets, and add diversification.
From gold to natural gas to crypto, each commodity sub-class comes with different strengths and weaknesses in a market drawdown.
Seeking Alpha's Quant system evaluates ETFs through five key metrics - momentum, expenses, dividends, risk, and liquidity – providing investors with actionable insights for ETF portfolios.
SA Quant has identified two Strong Buy Quant-rated—one gold ETF and one crypto—to see which is performing better.
I am Steven Cress, Head of Quantitative Strategies at Seeking Alpha. I manage the quant ratings and factor grades on stocks and ETFs in Seeking Alpha Premium. I also lead Alpha Picks, which selects the two most attractive stocks to buy each month, and also determines when to sell them.

bitcoin hadn’t proven itself to be a hedge to anything .
if anything it’s traded like a tech stock following them up and down .

gold is a far better hedge and has proven itself over and over to be better at the last two decades than bonds have been

Nor is Bitcoin anonymous/safe (state independent). Dirty bitcoins can be tracked through the open/public ledger and at the point of exit - being moved to a exchange to be converted/sold for Dollars/whatever - be seized as the proceeds of illicit activities, perhaps with further seizure of that individuals other assets and possible jail time.

But potentially a useful additional asset/diversifier. More like a leveraged tech stock. Instead of third in TQQQ (3x QQQ), two thirds in gold (to counter what TQQQ borrows in order to scale exposure), 11/11/11/67 TQQQ/SPXL/Bitcoin/Gold. Whilst bitcoin/TQQQ/SPXL individually tend to correlate one of those will be the least-most/up , least-most/down ... to add to/withdraw from at the time, which is a form of time-cost-averaging.

More of a 'and' asset than a 'or' asset. With multi-way hedging (stocks may have better hedged gold declines at one point in time, or bitcoin might instead have hedged better).

SECONDED !!! If you want BTC as a small part of your risk allocation, go for it. But safe haven? As yet unproven. Ask again after the next recession / depression.
