Mount McKinley or Denali

Earlier this week President Trump issued an Executive Order changing the official name of the mountain back to Mount McKinley.
Both Alaska senators voiced objection.

Should a decision about the name of a mountain or monument in a given state be left up to the citizens of that state to decide?

What entity established the park in the beginning?

Price of eggs, healthcare, long-term care, and housing dropping as we speak! Thank you Dear Leader!

The day before the inauguration I filled up my car at WalMart for $2.53 per gallon, regular unleaded. Let's see what gasoline costs in four years.

Good question. The original idea for creating the preserve came from a conservationist who developed a plan:
On December 3, 1915, the plan was presented to Alaska's delegate, James Wickersham, who after some deliberation gave his approval. The plan then went to the executive committee of the Boone and Crockett Club and, on December 15, 1915, it was unanimously accepted. The plan was thereupon endorsed by the club and presented to Stephen Mather, Assistant Secretary of the Interior in Washington, D.C., who immediately approved it.

The bill was introduced in April 1916, by Delegate Wickersham in the House and by Senator Key Pittman of Nevada in the Senate. Much lobbying took place the following year, and on February 19, 1917, the bill passed. On February 26, 1917, 11 years from its conception, the bill was signed in legislation by the President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, thereby creating Mount McKinley National Park.[5][6]
So from a legal standpoint, there's no question, the Feds hold the authority. But I still question whether locals' voices should matter.
The movement to change the name from Mount McKinley to Denali was initiated by Alaska in 1975, though the effort went on for 40 years before the Obama administration changed it. Apparently, the mountain has been called Denali by many locals for decades.
In 1975, the state of Alaska requested that the mountain be officially recognized as Denali, as it was still the common name used in the state and was traditional among Alaska Native peoples. This change action was repeatedly blocked by members of the congressional delegation from Ohio, the home state of the mountain's presidential namesake.

In August 2015, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell announced that the name would officially be changed to Denali in all federal documents.[4][5] While on an Alaskan visit in the first week of September 2015, President Barack Obama announced the renaming of the mountain.[6] The Obama Administration's proposal was met with immediate criticism from the entire US Congressional delegation from Ohio.[7]
Interesting story. It's also quite interesting that William McKinley never visited Alaska nor had any professional, political or personal connection to Alaska. The only reason his name ended up on the mountain is because an influential gold mining owner at the time wanted to commemorate Mc Kinley in reciprocation for his support of the gold standard in contrast to his political rival William Jennings Bryant who was supporting a silver standard.

Interesting history on Mt McKinley!

Side question: does leaded still exist? I haven’t driven in 25-30 years and I guess I thought it’d been phased out.

That is a good, reasonable question.

What I want to know is, is John Mellencamp going to change the line in Little Pink Houses to “and vacation down at the Gulf of America”?

Because that won’t rhyme!

I have an Iraqi friend who told me some years ago that they refer to the Persian Gulf as the Arabian Gulf. I guess I should have figured. O0

What about politicians selling naming rights for mountains? Maybe Denali could be Mount Doritos or Mount Lexapro.

If you're ever in Saudi or UAE, you NEVER want to say "Persian Gulf" !

So gas is up 2.3% compounded per annum, about like general inflation. For Trump to beat that, it has to be $2.77 or lower in 2029.

Now one is complaining about the stock market the past four years, except doomers like me who think it's overvalued.

It's now proliferating in both the NBA and major league baseball. So why not?

But if I recall, your dooming served you well with respect to gold purchases.
