Vinny Likes Tulsi,
Tulsi Likes Trump.
That’s an odd love triangle

No. Once I heard her interviewed by Lex Fridman I no longer favored her.

I do not. I did in 2020. But that was four years ago. It's now 2024.

I wonder what Jack Jones and others think about the idea of Elon as a sort of government efficiency czar

I think Elon should continue focusing on getting some humans to Mars.

Well Harris is way more prepared and just…coherent, than I expected.
Trump had been wiping the floor with Biden, but now he’s talking about the eating of cats and dogs? He’s not doing well tonight.

It's just Trump being Trump. He's merely transported rally Trump to debate Trump.
He does NOT believe in preparation.

Whether or not you believe in her sincerity, Harris has actively tried to get out of the lefty echo chamber and extend her reach into pre-Trump conservatives (see Dick Cheney). So her campaign has been trying to communicate and be coherent for the general populace.
Trump has been insulated in his own little information bubble and it's atrophied his ability to communicate. Biden made Trump shine only because Biden's cognitive decline was more rapid and noticeable than Trump's.

It was as obvious as it was awkward that Trump could not look at Harris. Ever.
Every time Trump was talking, Harris turned and faced him, probably looked him right in the eye. Every time she talked, he looked straight ahead or down, never faced her. If he was triggered, he looked down or up and to his right, but never back at her. Why do you think that happened? Was he intimidated? In the past debates, especially the 2016 primaries, he always turned and faced whomever was speaking.
I think the first power move, where she walked across the stage and introduced herself, put him on his heels. Maybe he is used to intimidating others. After all his size and aggression is imposing. But people who are used to that are lost when the other person makes it clear they are not afraid of them.
Try watching part or all of the debate with the sound muted and examine the facial expressions. Watch the body language and posture too. It's so interesting regardless of your politics.

Interesting. I thought he stared straight ahead with Biden, too, though, didn’t he? In the recent one.
I enjoyed the handshake.

{ from the Meme thread }
Let’s go with not-quite-a-landslide for Trump in 2024. But we need a word for what looks like a Republican trifecta now: the presidency, the senate and, I guess, the house of representatives.

Unified party government?
If the two congressional chambers are effectively subordinated to the presidency, depending on what practical role the judiciary takes, I would call it autocracy or absolutism. If the power is wielded in a heavy handed way, then maybe totalitarianism?
Not necessarily meant in the pejorative way the media throws that term around.
But if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck....it is what it is.
The potential is there for things to go a variety of ways. It remains to be seen.

Going by memory and not doing any research ... isn't it the same thing that both Obama and his predecessor had for a few years? In both cases they lost is after the first two years of having it?

Everyone here is missing who are the true masters of the US Government... and of all people, those of you who own 25% long bonds in your portfolios!
The true masters are the Bond Vigilantes. Have you all forgotten UK PM Liz Truss? That was only two years ago. How quickly we forget.
I think a similar process would happen in the USA under any R or D President, but I think the pace will be faster with unified government, all one party, because bills will speed through the leg process and become law.
When the massive required Treasury issuance becomes apparent, then the true masters will reveal themselves.
Moody's has said a few days ago they might downgrade US Treasuries if financial conditions worsen. It makes me wonder... would the far-right GOP want to default to "own the bond vigilantes"? Just like Nixon wanted to "own the French" when he took the US off the gold standard on 8/15/1971?
You can never own the bond market. Politicians think 0-dimensionally or 1-dimensionally at most with their emotional lizard brains, but there are more degrees of freedom in the
Impossibility Trinity.
