If investment institutions bar themselves from owning gold, I say no big deal. I never have liked the idea of gold as a plaything for hot money. Now, if governments divest gold because of ESG, that could be very interesting, and probably not good. But, I think most governments which want to own gold will find a way to keep owning gold.
