One of the richest Men in all history. Lived from 1459-1525 aka "Jakob the Rich".
25% Business (Equities)
25% Gold Coin
25% RE (REITS)
25% Sovereign Debt
Sound Familiar... maybe he was HB's inspiration. Kinda like I suspect that ol' Ray Dalio got his inspiration from HB.

My guess is that this is how he preserved his wealth, not made it.

Yeah it sounded interesting but when I tried to hunt down how or even if he did this I couldn't find anything.
That portfolio sure seems like it would do well across the ages of time though.

Same here, not a lot of information on him, but what I could find indicates he was one smart Fugger.

Allegedly attributed with having said ...
Divide your fortune into four equal parts: stocks, real estate, bonds and gold coins. Be prepared to lose on one of them most of the time. During inflation, you will lose on bonds and win on gold and real-estate; during deflation, you lose on real estate and win on bonds, while your stocks will see you through both periods, though in a mixed fashion. Whenever performance differences cause a major imbalance, rebalance your fortunes back to the four equal parts.
However evidence of him ever having actually said that is illusive.
Similar to the Talmud divide equally between land, stocks, reserves claim. The actual Hebrew text records a 'bury in ground' statement along with a third in hand at all times, and is discussed in a liquidity/security/counter-party risk context, so could be interpreted as being a
third each of gold in-hand, maybe a third buried away securely into long dated treasury and stocks

The fact that the PP has seemingly ancient roots that go back centuries into deep time is fascinating to me.
It's also apparent that the appeal of the PP is more than just financial or even aesthetic. Rather, it has an almost mystical quality about it.
Something about the methodology of these simple but balanced portfolios resonates with the economic world and feels "in alignment". Very intriguing.
