Interesting personal anecdotes that provide some insight into Trump phenomenon.

"To tie into what you said, my husband and I both voted for Trump. Had Bernie been an option we would have voted for him. I know that sounds absolutely crazy, one extreme to the other. We wanted change in DC. We foolishly thought that it could happen from the top down. That the 2 parties would be forced to work together to either stop Trump, because they were all against him then, or to implement changes because the shock of him being elected should have sent a message that middle America is not happy. Hilary was never an option, too much baggage and corruption. I went to 2 Trump rallies, my husband went to 1 Trump and 1 Bernie. He was saying what many people in the middle were thinking, drain the swamp was a biggie. As we all can see he has gone on to not only fill the swamp, but fill it with cronies and criminals.

All we as Americans can do now is look at what we can do to make the changes needed in DC. The whole place is corrupt and run by special intrest groups, the average American is not considered in any of the decisions that go on there. Look at how both parties have responded to the needs of the people during Covid, none of them give a shit, but I can say with certainty that Trump truly only cares about himself, he doesn't even care about the special intrest groups. By the way we will be voting for Biden and have done everything we can to help others reach that same decision. We feel responsible for helping get that POS in office so we feel our duty lies in helping getting him out."

In 2016 I couldn’t help but think “this is what we deserve.” My line of thinking was “this is the Presidency that will likely force Americans to realize they can’t just go vote straight party ticket anymore,” or that they’d finally have to start thinking more critically about politics and the person they are voting for. I guess I even thought maybe Democrats deserved this after the shitshow they put on at the DNC. I think that has sort of happened, but as much as I despised Clinton I may have voted for her if I could do it over again. The loss of lives and insanity really wasn’t worth it. I also naively thought this term might finally see a third party shine through. I was wrong about that for sure. I’m politically agnostic and mostly always have been, but my vote this round sure as hell won’t be for him"

That he'll reopen the factories, plants, steel mills and so on.

So America's forgotten former middle class voted for him. There's a shit ton of these people.

He didn't waste his time campaigning in states he knew he would lose like California. He was great at picking up swing states.

The media never talks about it, but there’s a lot of places in USA that are financially wrecked from bad trade deals and globalization. My dad lost his job because of NAFTA. Our whole town did.

My whole town voted Trump in 2016 as a big Fuck You to the establishment who forgotten about us. It's not that we're stupid and racist. It's just that Trump is the only human who actually acknowledged our pain. Obama never visited my town.

To use an analogy, it's like when you're homeless and everyone ignores you. Then finally some skin headed weirdo walks up and says "hey bud I know you're hungry. I'm going to the ATM to take out a few hundo to help you."

It doesn't matter if I like or trust the guy, he's the only human who's acknowledged me so I quickly say "Okay you have my vote man! I'm starving."

People in pain don't think rationally. Some people in pain just want to see the whole god damned system burn to the ground."

People voted for JFK, Clinton, and Obama because they were charming, and Obama had the extra appeal of being our first black president.

From my seat, once Hillary said the deplorables line, the race was over. There is a huge swath of ordinary people who felt, and feel today, that despite being good, hardworking people, the political elites on both sides hate them. Hillary said so, and her followers laughed along. And if anything, the perceived hate is 100X the volume now. These people just want to live their lives and be left alone. Instead they are told their jobs are no longer relevant so they need to learn to code, that they are bumpkins, racists, and worse. Democrat/mainstream entertainers make fun of them constantly.

Trump took apart the GOP contenders. He exposed them as warmongering elites who sold out jobs. Then he did the same to Hillary. The Trump voters who have buyer's remorse are sick of his crudeness and all that. I don't think in the main that they disagree with his policies.
