How to Rescue Retirement When Older Clients Divorce
Dennis Stearns highlights the “must-know” issues tied to the “exploding trend” of gray divorce.

Divorce among people age 50 and older is sweeping the nation. How financial advisors can help clients navigate the epidemic of so-called gray divorce, especially by rejigging retirement plans, is a focus for Dennis Stearns, founder of fee-only Stearns Financial Group. The veteran advisor has worked in this area, which, he says, often gets “messy,” for a decade.
Stearns, whose firm, based in Greensboro, North Carolina, manages about $1 billion, discusses how he helps clients find the right financial solutions. The gray divorce expert is author of “Fourth Quarter Fumbles: How Successful People Avoid Critical Mistakes Later in Life.”

Any thoughts on the cause in the US ?
My experience in Australian rural areas is that most 80/90 year olds are still married.

My gal recently asked me what my plans for 2021 were.
Her daughter just graduated college this year. Being no dummy, I knew that the real question was "What is the next stage of our relationship". It took me several months, but I managed to convince her that she was not looking for marriage, but was really seeking a relationship where we both throw something into the pot and we both have something to gain or lose.
Now the question is, who hornswoggled who? At the very least, I know what the limits to my downside are. In most deals, that's the best you can hope for.

Are you guys agreeing that I'm cynical, or agreeing with my comments/advice?
i was (unfortunately

) ) agreeing with the cynicism. "it shouldn't be so" but marriage is a go in with your eyes open situation in today's world.

Agreeing you are realistic, and getting depressed that you are correct
Heck, my dog stayed with my sick mother for a week and wouldn't leave her side, even for food.
Can't we be better than a dog?
What happened to better or worse, sickness or health? (bigger sigh)
PS: In memory of the collie, that dog would put its paw on my mothers shoulder while she was in bed, or rest its chin on her pillow and look into her eyes. Miss that dog

If I were a young man looking for a wife, I would leave the US and go to a less misandrist country.
Yes, it's really that bad.
