American Inventors

After reading an article about how you get different results from Googling "American Inventors" on the U.S. and Mexican versions of Google Search I discovered you get the same results just comparing Google Search to Bing.

In regards to Bing, they could have at least included George Washington Carver who is actually a scientist/inventor I remember reading about in the History books. Maybe if you scrolled far enough you would find him and some of the other black inventors. Or else they must be racist.

As for Google, who knew that with only around 12 to 13 percent of the whole population, black inventors would be so over-represented among famous inventors? Even more impressive than the number of Jews that have won the Nobel prize. Now that we know it was the second guy who invented the light bulb, not the first, they should probably switch those two around.

Before anyone calls me a racist for posting this, I meant it as a commentary on Google, not race. Looks like clear evidence that they are building their left wing biases into search results if anybody really doubted that.

I can't imagine anyone doubts that at this point.

tech, you probably understand this better than anyone -- the images that show up are a representation of the most recently highly searched inventors, not some secret plan to show mostly black inventors? No?

So to me this represents everything that is going on with BLM, and likely more people searching for historical black figures that were very successful.

I am open to other interpretations, but we are talking generic search algorithms and what to show first based off current popularity in searches, aren't we?

Add: Bing searches are probably less representative of current trends, just based off which engines get more volume.

Google continues to dominate search engine use, starting 2020 with an average net market share of 70.38% on desktop according to NetMarket Share. However, this figure is actually slightly below where it stood at the start of 2019 (75.46%) as Bing’s net share has seen a slight increase.
--Bing has about 13%

If their executive team is biased...in a capitalist society, so what? DC has had embedded lobbyist throwing money at politicians forever, from both sides. Is this any different? You can use Bing or a number of other search engines.

Are they a monopoly and should be regulated and not be able to do this? Maybe?

I don’t personally have a position on this. I always mentally know to filter any search results from any searches I might do whether google or something else.

I don't use Google due to their bias.
I use duckduckgo instead.
And actually I don't care what their search engine shows or doesn't show.

The social media giants, namely Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube (the last owned by Google), are another matter.

They have special legal protection against defamation suits owing to a provision of US law intended for "platforms" that are supposed to be neutral, not editorial in nature.

Obviously they are nothing of the sort and should have that protection taken away if they continue to exert editorial control over content.

The first time I discovered this was when Steve Sailer posted about it several years ago so I don't think that the current situation with BLM is really pertinent except for the black inventor of the light bulb who may very well have gained that position thanks to Joe Biden.

And as I said in my OP, when it was pointed out again in a recent article, the author was referring to google.mx, i.e., the Mexican version of Google search. It brings up pretty much the same list as Bing.

I really don't have a problem with them programming whatever biases they want into their search algorithms. It just bothers me that they pretend they don't.

Another thing they have done, as Tucker Carlson has been pointing out on his show, is to eliminate hits on conservative/right leaning websites like Fox News and Breitbart unless you actually include their name in the search. In other words, searching "Joe Biden" won't bring up any hits on Breitbart unless you search for "Joe Biden Breitbart".

Tech,

I just did an American Inventors search on duck duck go.

Nearly 100% of the top image results are African American Inventors.

Can you explain that?

Seems like something is quite strange... In google or ddg, search for " white American Inventors" also turns up mostly black inventor images....?

The algorithms used to generate search results in Google are far more complex than most people realize. There are hundreds of variables that change all the time, plus they are personalized in a variety of ways. Google does have the ability to manipulate the results and they frequently penalize sites without any explanation. Their argument against transparency is that it would allow bad actors to game the system (which is true) but it’s hard to say if that’s worse than Google gaming the system.

Duckduckgo specifically states that they don't include google results:

"We also of course have more traditional links in the search results, which we also source from multiple partners, though most commonly from Bing (and none from Google). "

Obviously they are also going along with the current insanity, which sucks but I guess is par for the course.
Fortunately I don't rely on search engines for my political views.

On second thought, I'm not sure many searches have been done recently on "American Inventors" that weren't looking for "African-American Inventors", so maybe that would explain it.

If you want a less afro-centric view, you can type in "american inventors -african" to ddg and it will come up with something a bit less colorful (so to speak).
