It's always somewhat of a relief that the situation we find ourselves in today has been overcome before. Nevertheless, what I find most distressing about the whole process of getting through these crisis is that it highlights to me how pathetic our leadership, media, and many citizens are in evaluating the facts and working towards a viable solution.

These so called leaders of ours need to take some lessons in humility and realize that the ideas that they cling to so religiously might actually be wrong and harmful to the long term success of our nation. Instead, their personal viewpoints have become like religious dogma and that is dangerous.

One of the things that keeps me coming back to this forum is the willingness of people to constantly question and test their presuppositions and prejudices. On other forums GOLD rules the day or stocks are the only long term winners but here people seem to take a more humble attitude towards their beliefs and although they will defend their perspective (I continue to hate the idea of LT Bonds...although ironically they are the only performing asset I have at the moment!) they are willing and open to reasoned debate and dialogue. I appreciate this scientific attitude. I only wish that our leaders would be able to follow this example and the media would set a different tone to the debate.

One of the subtle aspects of Harry Browne's thinking that we all benefit from is the tendency of his ideas to attract a certain kind of person.  I don't know how to describe this type of person except to say look around this forum and they are everywhere, even though in the real world they are very rare.
