I take it that in Victoria, people are discouraged from moving around outside?
Apparently they don't know that outdoor transmission of the virus is rare?

I used to think I'd like to live in OZ or NZ. Lately I see that I was mistaken. But that's part of what Casey is saying. I do think he is right. Live in a small town that has a frontier attitude.

On another note, I used to be more taken with the ideas of a second passport, some kind of landholding in another country, etc.

I don't know if I stopped worrying about it because I may have mellowed with age, or because having our money in the PP over a long term has made me calm. The PP has definitely calmed my nerves. Maybe too calm, as it pertains to these kinds of things?

You are correct. Ultimately I might move to the Northern Territory or North Queensland that has a more frontier spirit.

What parts of the US would have the frontier attitude Doug was referring to?

The short answers are Alaska, Texas, and most of the intermountain West. You've probably gathered that we have red and blue states, which are conservative and progressive, respectively. There are also red and blue USA maps by county. What you'll see is the cities, suburbs, Indian reservations, and college towns are blue, and the rest of the country is red. But first hand I can tell you that a red small town in a blue state is not the same as one in a red state.

Somehow, in 2016, the blue represented 3,000,000 more votes than the red!

Other than the "Free State Project" (which is filled with young idealists) I pretty much agree with I shrugged.

I'm looking at Kanab, UT for asset storage now. It's too small for me to want to spend a lot of time there, but damn it is a pleasant town.

'Somehow' is because the blue areas are the population dense cities.

Except for my state - Massachusetts - where it looks like it was a sweep in the entire state. And, where I live - the western part - aside from Springfield - it is decidedly un-dense.

Beautiful town, like a postcard. I got a kick out of standing at the main highway 3 way intersection. No matter which direction you look, there are signs indicating the mileage to one or more national parks.

No, I was thinking I would go mainstream and find some small cowboy bank with a drawer available. I have a few more drawers spread around the country, but it is time to pull the last bits out of Portland.

if you are a fan of western movies a bunch have been filmed there (kanab area)... including the final scene in the outlaw Jose Wales, i visited the canyon, and the (film built) western ghost town a couple times back in the early 2000's before a flash flood washed it away..

it was a lot more aged and rustic when i saw it decades after the filming...
