Mask Question

So time for everyone to give their opinions. A year from now, will we all still be required to wear masks in most public places? How about 2 years from now?
And if mask requirements under the law go away, will there still be a sizable majority of people who continue to wear them? If so, will most of those people be doing so because of political group signaling or will they be newly found germaphobes?

A lot may have to do with generally less contact, but no one in my family has gotten any sicknesses in the past 6 months. My older daughter, esp, used to get 5-10 colds a year, easy.
I think some portion will continue to wear masks.
Pug, you say that regardless of the winner?

With 100% certainty if Biden wins, but prob either way bc they won't be able to use it against Trump any further. But the fact that you even asked that question shows that you agree that the whole thing has become politicized to the point of it all being complete BS.
Oh I have agreed it is politicized for a while. I just can’t figure out how to get past that, esp. when the goalposts move all the time, and now we focus on cases vs. deaths and hospital overload, and the young people acting reckless, and the long term COVID, and the heart issues, etc, etc.
We have been steered toward only a vaccine will allow us normality mentality. For whatever reasons. But then numbers don’t lie, and cases and deaths seem to have peaked in the second wave and are coming down. Not a bad thing for Trump, which I assume means the mainstream will keep doing stories of the younger folks who get it and don’t seem to get better.

Texas cases have started to decline. So this week the headlines around here no longer focus on case or death counts and have moved on to personal stories. "Texas Mom warns about Covid-19 in Heartbreaking Video Weeks Before Dying." Those sorts of things.

Red state governors will likely ease mask restrictions when their states reach herd immunity (i.e., cases, hospitalizations, and deaths all become very low and trend consistently down for at least a month or two).
Blue state governors will likely ease mask restrictions later, when a vaccine becomes widely available.
But even after the governors lift their states' mask restrictions, my prediction is that many or even most businesses will be hesitant to remove mask restrictions for their customers and employees until they are shielded from liability in some way, such as Tennessee's new liability shield law. In 2020, avoidance of blame and lawsuits is paramount.
Years from now, the small fraction of the population that were closet germophobes before the pandemic may continue to wear masks since germophobia is socially acceptable now.

Of course this is purely speculation, but I think the virus will burn out before the next 12 months and/or we will have herd immunity. I also think a lot of the Covid hysteria will magically disappear after Nov 3.
Absolutely. Case in point: The mainstream media is now
blaming Trump for pressuring the FDA to fast-track convalescent plasma treatments for Covid-19 patients, cynically accusing him of trying to get it approved before November since it might help his reelection chances.
But if he
didn't fast-track convalescent plasma, the mainstream media would blame him for standing by idly, doing nothing while Covid-19 patients died. They would say he could have saved thousands of lives --
thousands, mind you! -- if he had just acted.
After the election, the mainstream media will probably lay off the Covid-19 fear-mongering in order to focus on their next few coup attempts, whatever they may turn out to be.

So you are discounting Biden saying that if he is elected he will institute a nationwide mask mandate and possible complete shutdown if he is advised by the "science."

No, I'm just assuming Biden won't be elected.

Let me ask you this: Who is moving the goal posts? If you look closely, I think you will find that it is almost exclusively Dem governors and mayors. You might think because Pritzker and Lightfoot do that and you hear about it bc you live in Chicago, that it is going on everywhere. Not the case.
I am looking at how things are affecting me personally, so there is that slant:
--The high school, and schools in general, many have gone from we are at least going to do a hybrid start, to online only with consistent reviews, to we are going to put off reviews and just stay online until???? The pod of three girls in the basement helping each other out and just being together is working out a lot better than I could have hoped.
--Colleges, they are for the most part all getting smacked hard with cases from whatever, gatherings, parties, etc, and being forced to send kids home or go fully online for a period of time. Just asked our daughter if ND stays online would she rather be home or there. She said she'd rather be home, at least she'd have freedom to go around, shop, etc. It is literally a jail right now, with the addition of jail quality food too. Don't know why the food sucks all of a sudden, it used to be great.
--Otherwise, other than wearing a mask, my life is basically unaffected. I ride my bike to work, do not wear a mask at work, we have meetings as normal at work (some wearing masks, most don't). And business is good.
--And now we hear that the virus can travel 26 feet. And I think has become sentient.

Hiring people to teach <HS kids seems like a good move.

Are college aged people even affected by it? More than other diseases they get?
Seems retarded to me.

Bars are closed. So are pretty much every other recreational gathering place. As a married dude, maybe you don't know what that means for us single dudes, but that's where we get laid. This year has been fucking awful. Some of us have to wear masks at the office which is fucking terrible too.

My HSer and her friends still do the Zoom thing with the regular school, no one was hired. They are doing better just being together and helping each other out.
College -- of all the cases at ND, no hospitalizations, nothing I have been made aware of any stronger than a cold/flu reaction. I don't know at what point people get past the .0xx% of potentially dying from it.

Sorry... I meant that all of you thoughcriminals were relying on remote classes instead of inperson- teachers.

As of a few weeks ago, for the (at most) once a week I am off my property and wearing a mask for (at most) one hour total, I've started wearing something like this.
Since it is not as tight against the nose and mouth as a mask is it seems to restrict breathing much less and also generate much less heat.
If I have to wear a mask, this is mine!

Maybe not exactly answering the original question.
But I think in the future, I will wear a mask when shopping during a cold or flu outbreak in my locale. It's pretty obvious when those happen.
Also I will be carrying sanitizer during those times. And my own pen.
There will still be some stigma to wearing a mask, but not like before.

So as an adjunct to the original question: are lockdowns going to be the norm going forward whenever some new virus strain arises? If so, why on earth would anyone in their right mind think about opening a restaurant or bar knowing that politicians can shut you down at any time for general health reasons? For that matter, would that dissuade you from owning rental property in the future, knowing that your incoming rent payments can be suspended at every health issue that the country faces?

A year from now, I think Most states will have dropped their mask mandates.
There may be a few people who still wear masks but the majority will not.
There will be more people more cognizant of hand washing and using sanitizer though.
But i think most mask wearing will have disappeared.
Let's just say if in a Year mask are still mandated, when is it going to be time to not mandate them.

If Lock down's Continue or are going to be the norm.
We can kiss the U.S. goodbye as we know it.
Collectivism will be the way forward.

We haven't seen the tip of the iceberg as far as business and personal financial hardships from this one. It's going to be huge. So huge that no, there will not be shutdowns for the common flu and such.
