Luxury Watches as Investments?

Full disclosure: I belong to that generation that wore watches because back in the land of long ago, it was the only way we had of telling time in the absence of a clock. With the advent of wireless handheld computers that double as telephones, watches are no longer a practical necessity for most of us (conceding some exceptions like military people). As such, I haven't worn a watch with regularity since the calendar started with the numbers 1 and 9. To the extent that I have any interest in watches as a fashion accessory, which for most people is what they now are; I'm more of a pocket watch guy. And as far as I can tell, those have gone the way of top hats and morning coats. So no, I'm not a watch guy and if I had $50k + to invest, it would not be in a watch.
All of which said, I did find the video entertaining and informative on a subject I know little about.

I started wearing a watch at quite a young age - in elementary school. But stopped wearing one sometime in my late 20s.
I now regularly wear one in the form of a fitbit. Find that it comes quite in handy as a watch.

i still wear a watch but only at work, i find it more convenient than pulling out a phone and it lets me keep a better eye on my time management.. no fancy watches though, just a plain old waterproof analog wrist clock

My buddy years ago was really into nice watches, he knew a lot about them. In Afghanistan I bought a knock-off Franck Muller that kept time for shit, but it looks pretty cool so I wear it occasionally. I don't know enough about, nor am I interested enough in, watches to make money on them, but I can see how you could. It's kind of like how you could do that with real estate, classic motorcycles, or whatever.
I still wear my Marathon dive watch, FWIW.

I wear a smartwatch -- an Apple Watch to be exact. It's nice, and I appreciate that is has more features than a traditional watch. However, I do find that smartwatches in general have a "disposable" feeling that many mechanical watches don't have. I think that is borne out in resale value and collectability. I can easily see a mechanical watch being worth more as decades pass. An old smartwatch with a degraded battery and crappy processor that's too slow to run the latest OS update? Probably not so much.

I think their are watches that are very likely to retain their value and also likely to go up. Have done a tiny bit of research on this and their are certain watches like the Rolex submariner series. But their is a wide range of high end manufactures like Audemars Piquet (sp?) Richard Mille, Grand Seiko, Patek Phillipe.
There is a YouTube channel thats fun to watch “Producer Michael” that focuses on watches and also often their possible investment value.
timerating.com has charts for watches that show the watch value vs the DAX and inflation.
