Federal Reserve Notes

"A note is a legal document that serves as an IOU from a borrower to a creditor or to an investor. Notes typically obligate issuers to repay creditor the principal loan, in addition to any interest payments, at a predetermined date." (
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/n/note.asp)
Can anyone tell me who exactly the borrower and the creditor are for a Federal Reserve note, and exactly what is to be repaid?

I would have guessed with the Gold, You have the answer.
Historically, Federal Reserve notes have been the largest liability on the Federal Reserve's balance sheet.

Actually a "Federal Reserve Note" isn't even an IOU, since it imposes no obligation on the Federal Reserve.
In fact, a Federal Reserve Note is not federal, is not backed by reserves, and isn't a note.
Other than that the name is quite appropriate!

Well I guess after we were taken off the Gold standard the "IOU" isn't a very good "IOU" anymore, because of what it is backed by.
I agree the Fed is a Banking Cartel.
Now do Bitcoin.

Mike Maloney used to make this joke all the time.
Not Federal. No reserves. Not a note.
It's counterfeiting and illegal.

Sorry to have to correct you, but it is
legal counterfeiting.
Unfortunately.
