Is phpBB the provider of this forum that we use?

Now that I've been using it a lot I have a high appreciation for it as a user. I don't know how difficult it was to see up or to keep it going. But from a user's perspective I like the way that it works.

phpBB is software written by a group of volunteers/enthusiasts. I wouldn't describe software as a "provider", although I suppose the group writing the software provides the software. Typically "provider" refers to the host. The forum is hosted at Linode, but it's unmanaged (meaning it's managed by me).

Craig and Tex migrated the forum to phpBB a number of years ago. Before that it was on Simple Machines Forum, a piece of software developed by a similar group to the phpBB folks.

I'm glad you like it! I have a feeling that by this point you know more about the ins and outs of it than most, including myself...

Somewhat....but it was ONLY yesterday that I finally saw the place where I could click to get to the first unread post! Wish I'd seen that one quite awhile ago!
