he claimed he didn’t see the light. when i first went over to him .

then he. told the cops he was confused and isn’t sure what happened .

but by then we had the video

perfect example .

my wife and i went to a local park on labor day to do some photography.

we were. about a mile from home when a guy ran a red light and totaled our 2023 lexus rx500h .

amazing thing is the guy next to us had his dash came running .

he showed us having a solid green when a guy came barreling down and went thru the red light .

the insurance company said no statement by me was even needed .

we reach a settlement on the car in 4 days .

so we never expected to go out and have to buy a new car after buying this one only two years ago .

there are a lot of costs too associated with this crash like. the insurance company only covers a loaner until they reach a settlement then give you 2 or 3 extra days .

so we will need it about a week on our own dime . she hasn’t been able to cook much so we are bringing food in .


we were both transported to the hospital by ambulance.

i had only a cut kneed but my wife was really bruised up .

no broken bones according to the hospital x-ray but there may be torn tissue so we are checking it out tomorrow.

there is always unexpected expenses. that easily blow the budget .

there are no more lexus rx500h available at this point , so i don’t mind. stepping back to a 2025 lexus rx350 premium plus .

we got 60k for the 2023 totaled car so i have to add just 10k more for the new rx350 premium plus . a new rx500h like we had is over 90k so we will save a few bucks .

the extra 100 hp was nice but not a necessity

they are installing my dash cam and prepping the car tomorrow.

i hope this guy was carrying more than 50k on property coverage since my car alone was 60k plus all the other bills like my loaner .

plus he took down the fence when his car crashed thru it and wrecked the yard on the corner

my insurance company will sue him personally to recover any difference in what they paid vs his coverage

MJ If there's vague torso pain, could be pulled abdominal. A week later the pain moves to the surface of ribs and feels like normal skeletal muscle soreness from exercise.

Dunno if he was, but drunks get less injured because cars are designed for front impact

Went to pick up the Bolt, they didnt have my check as discussed and the overhead map lights dont work, so I left it with them. Has a year left on warranty. Part of their strategy is to grind you down apparently.

i would disagree , what we may be comfortable with and what we need to have to meet our goals are two different things .

many retirees have been hurting themselves , in fact dangerously as they try to go with what they are comfortable with as opposed to the allocation they need to maintain their draw rate they are counting on .

most of us workers don’t have the luxury of going with what we are comfortable with in the accumulation stage because we need one of the most powerful forces on earth working hard for us and that is compounding .

the best way to have an underfunded retirement is go with what you are comfortable with .

if one can’t handle the proper amount of equities to adequately grow their money than get a money manager who can .

this is where most would benefit paying a money manager.

vanguard has done a few studies on this and they are the grand pappy of do it yourself investing but they found most small investors would do better letting someone else handle their money

Back on topic. This provocative video implies that, no, compounding won't save us either.



My takeaways:

• Due to the fact that taxes are levied against nominal gains, the government scoops up most of the wealth generated through compounding.
• Maxing out Roth contributions is still worthwhile.
• Don't contribute to 401k past company match.
• Buy gold with the rest

retirees usually end up backing in to what they have to work with .

it may end up buying a life they hate but everyone makes what they have work .

well that’s if they are underfunded or invested to conservatively in their accumulation stage .

look at compounded returns for even simple s&p funds over decades .

i have been doing ira’s and 401ks since the 1980’s and i was never a high earner .

i just did what i could . that retirement money grew to multiple seven figures and that includes the lost decade for stocks

The retirement fund rules are different "down under" so cannot comment on that (Tax free on withdrawal). But just finished the self managed retirement fund paperwork, the useless rock has done quite well btw ETPMAG is a Silver ETF. Will be watching for other forum members comments regarding your post.
