Kim Kardashian. She may be our only hope.

I don't have a good answer.  To be honest, it is hard for me to relate to having such feelings about a person with whom I have so little connection in my day-to-day life, which is how I view Obama, and probably any politician in Washington D.C.  I could imagine feeling that way about someone who had done direct harm to me or someone close to me.  For example, if I had a kid who was drafted into the military for something like Vietnam and was killed, I expect I'd be pretty upset.  For a long time.

P.S. (as in post script, not Pointedstick): You might find the advice provided in this post to be helpful. ;)
Funny you pointed out that post.  I actually was thinking quite a lot about it before I decided to post about "dear follower (df)".  :)

It's just that whenever I see df I experience such a range of thoughts/feelings:  disgust with df, disgust with those who slavishly support df, disgust with myself for feeling the way I do about df because I know I'm better than that, disgust with myself because I know that df serves at God's behest and who am I to rebel against God's wisdom, etc.  All in all, I think I will just delete all my news links and escape reality for now - I wonder if there is a 12 step program for politics?  Oh I think there is, Psalm 23 is a good start.  8)

On a serious note, thanks to all who gave their comments; lots of good food for thought.  I'm not sure about Kim Kardashian saving us though  ;)

Black residents of Chicago’s South Side, who recently rallied to decry a spate of violence in the city, ripped President Obama for ignoring their plight while pushing for funding for illegal immigrants at their expense

I keep wondering when black folks are going to start realizing that Obama has done basically nothing for them and actively worked against their interests on several occasions.

Sounds cynical, but I think those that know have known for a long time. Those who have given him cult-figure status from the beginning are impervious to facts.

I keep wondering when folks are going to start realizing that politicians have done basically nothing for them and actively worked against their interests on several occasions. And when we can shed this two-party system.

+1!

Although it seems to me that the obvious solution to politicians doing nothing for us and often actively working against our interests is not to move to a multi-party political system, but rather to stop having politicians.

Since you agree the gov't actively works against people's interests, then you should agree the only solution is to minimize things you allow the gov't to fuck with/up.

I think Mark may be saying that being oppressed by a modern government like that of the USA is largely a matter of choosing t be oppressed by it rather than choosing to structure one's activities in ways that allow one to bypass it.

Who was talking about being opressed?
Jan Van brought up:
" politicians have done basically nothing for them and actively worked against their interests"

And your reply and mine (thought you went further) was that there is a simple answer to that.  How did we get from there to opression?

I voted for him in 2008, on the basis that McCain was even worse.
I'm still not sure whether that was correct, but I certainly didn't vote for Obama in 2012.
