That applies to any fuel source. We drive around with tanks full of energy-dense gasoline which is poised to release that energy rapidly. There are going to be dangers with any fuel source.

I wonder if a gasoline tank placed under a car would ever happen if it was first introduced in today's regulatory environment. "I'm not gonna drive around with a fuel-air bomb under my car!"

Yeah, that's true, the earliest cars were steam or electric. But then they figured out how wonderful gasoline is..

I do remember reading that steam powered boat boilers exploding were definitely a major problem.
