Re: Kat Klub
Yet another great cat photo! Thanks Smith!
Here's one of a well-combed, well-fed, sleepy kitty. Good for lowering blood pressure.

Re: Kat Klub
These cats know they’re good looking.
I was just reading ‘The World Without Us” a book describing in great detail how nature would retake the earth if humans suddenly vanished (the New York chapter is terrifying, WiseOne. How do they even keep the subways free of water *today*. Answer: with great effort).
There’s a passage that says long after predators have eaten domesticated dogs, feral cats will live on, eating starlings.

Re: Kat Klub
Ooh, that does sound scary. Although, if the subways filled with water but no one were around to use them, why would that matter. Except the rats, I guess. Feral cats are way too smart to mess with subway tunnels.
Probably a more significant problem are the shorelines and steep cliffs held up by retaining walls in various states of disrepair. A nearby one collapsed a few years ago and blocked a highway for several days. The residents of the coop that owned the wall ended up getting stuck with bills of $50K or so each. Not everyone had enough insurance coverage. I made sure my homeowner's policy would cover an event like that, because my coop also has retaining walls.

Well drawn! How many times have I seen my cats in exactly the same position. It's how I learned not to put lightweight, breakable items on windowsills.
On with the Kriegspiel theme, which also would have played well in the middle ages. During the Black Death, feral cats were blamed for the calamity and slaughtered in large numbers. This of course only made things worse, as it allowed the rat population to increase.

Your cat reminds me of Marie from The Aristocats.
Re: Kat Klub
One source states that it was spread county by county by fleas on black rats on ships traveling between those countries. Once it made to those countries it was spread by human fleas.WiseOne wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 2:33 pm Well drawn! How many times have I seen my cats in exactly the same position. Then another states that the black rats were not guilty at all. That it was actually giant gerbils which were the guilty parties.

I can testify from first hand experience that cats will definitely my pet gerbils. Giant gerbils? Different story. As I've prior stated my cats stay away from my rats but they are endlessly attracted to the gerbils. If a giant gerbil was rat size then maybe the cats also would have left them alone.

Look who's in quarantine!!!

Re: Kat Klub
Is that how you get her to vet visits Smith?
Put a board or something underneath and that may be a solution for cats who fight carriers tooth and nail.

Re: Kat Klub
We have a little carrier for her that she doesn't have too much trouble getting into. She's usually pretty good as long as we incentivize her with some treats!

Re: Kat Klub
Wow, ours does everything in her power to avoid the carrier. We used to trick her in the early days, but she’s on to us and our schemes.

Re: Kat Klub
I've tried training with treats too. I did a daily routine with my carrier-hating cat where I'd throw a treat into the carrier and tell him to "jump in". And he did. Naturally, right before a vet visit when I start to THINK about putting him into the carrier for real, zoom away under the bed/behind the sofa he goes. It's like he has ESP and can hear any carrier-related intentions.
Dualstow, FWIW my resistant cat into carrier technique: step one, clip claws earlier in the day or the day before. Trap cat somewhere like the bathroom, or close doors to rooms with furniture that provides hiding places (e.g. bedroom). Stand carrier on end with the top (actually the side door) open. PIck up cat with two hands, one supporting his butt and the other one gripping the back of his neck (scruffing). Drop straight down into carrier. Keep scruffing until the top lid is down.
Kitty will eventually forgive you.
p.s. Love the avatar. is that your cat watching cat TV?

So, as some of you know, I came home late last night. I walk into my room, turn on the light, and am greeted by this.

Yeah. It was the generic video for some electronic music on youtube. When I looked up from my book, she was staring at a smooth stone in the sand. To her delight, it transformed into that bird, holding her attention long enough for me to snap a dimly lit photo.WiseOne wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 5:33 pm ...

We apply some of your technique, especially closing doors. Our main strategy, though, is just making sure I hold the bag while the missus picks up the cat. If I do it, she shoots out all four limbs. When missus does it, the cat surrenders because she knows who the boss is.

Hey guys. We've been talking about some pretty heavy topics lately. I want to give us a break with a quiet and content Lily picture. <3
