I’ll just leave this here. (Not about security keys; just a list of authenticator apps).

Your fear is not unfounded, Vinny. I had a Google Titan key once upon a time and it locked me out of my own email for a while. I returned it for a full refund.

However, where 2FA is required, I prefer the authenticator apps to an SMS text, and am quite comfortable with it.
And, I mostly add 2FA even when it’s not required, since passwords are regularly bypassed these days.

Still working up the nerve to add the Yubikey to something.

This is the first time I've ever seen the word.

Looking at this ... nothing jumps out at me as to what it does and how to use it. Looks like it's set up for someone who already knows what they want it to do.

Well, that's not the case, but usually it goes like this:
One goes on a forum and says, "What's a good app/program for _____ing?"
That's probably how I ended up downloading Veracrypt many years ago.
But if you don't know what it is, that's one vote for "No, I don't use it." O0

And you’re young. Wait til you get to the point where— well, I don’t know how it works for others, but for me, there was a point several decades ago until now that all feels like the recent past. Not that I can remember all the details, but early aughts (early 2000’s) until now is feels compressed.

It is even scarier when you can clearly remember all the details ... except the event was many decades ago!

When I heard on the radio what day it was ... I thought back to that time when I was in third grade and weary of walking to school in the cold, cold, cold weather and was hoping so much that that ground hog would NOT see his shadow. But he did.

It's possible it was quite a minor issue.

According to the National Safety Council, in 1950 for every 100 million miles driven you could expect 7.59 deaths. In 2022 that number is 1.33 deaths. source

Your B’head initialism of the day: NMI = No Middle Initial.
Yes, there’s an initialism for no initial!

You are probably too young to remember for certain holiday weekends how we'd be regularly updated for how many people were killed via card accidents during that weekend

An older gentleman I know joined the Army way back when, and filled out D (IO) in the middle name blank, meaning D (initial only). Of course the Army considered his middle name to be Dio for the entirety of his service.
