I watched a documentary purporting to explain coding and at the end i was treated to a warning about the dangers of “structural racism.” I guess they got tired of “systemic.” I’m down with diversity and agree that it’s important to have all kinds of people in the room when you program ♫ a just machine to make big decisions ♫ . But, the series is called “Explained” and the episodes are already short. I thought they were going to just explain what coding is and not try to indoctrinate me. Oh, right, it’s Ezra Klein’s Vox.
Not recommended.
I've noticed that trend in other modern documentaries, too. I'll enjoy it until almost the end, then in the last 5-10 minutes it will shift noticeably to a more preachy or political tone to wrap things up.
The latest example is that docuseries "The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel" that Smithers recommended. I enjoyed it overall, but the last part of the last episode got a little preachy about Skid Row. The hotel was located right next to Skid Row, but the main situation that was the focus of the documentary really had very little to do with it. The location of the hotel was probably almost irrelevant to what happened to Elisa Lam.

hah, I have it on right now, Tortoise!
So far, i don’t find it that compelling. Maybe if Rhea Seehorn played the asst. manager.

"The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is an excellent movie. The sequel, not so much.
The recasting of the two main characters had me salty in particular. Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara were such a great pair.

The Swedish versions were all excellent. I liked the American ones, but the Swedes nailed it.

I started watching it the other night. Was falling asleep during the first episode, which is all I watched. That concurs with you saying you did not find it compelling. After watching that first episode I tried something else. After watching that only episode have a difficult time believing what else could occupy nine (?) more episodes?

I did see those three Swedish versions and agree that they were excellent. Watched the American version at the movies when it came out and, again, on Netflix a few weeks ago. Was not aware there had been a sequel. What is its title?

Interesting! I didn't know there were actual Swedish versions. Now a lot of the movie regarding setting is starting to make more sense. I'll look it up. Hopefully I can find some subbed copies.

There are 3 novels that you can see on wikipedia.
Go to the bottom and you'll see book titles, Swedish film titles and American film titles.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennium_(novel_series)
Probably won't be any more because the author died, at like age 50 I think. Scratch that. Another novelist has taken over.
Blomkvist is based on the original author.
Saw the first film in Key West and loved it.
Second film- I agree with Smithers --- oops, except I'm referring to the Swedish films. I haven't seen any of the American ones.
Read the 3rd novel and it was a complete snoozer.

That is all.

Keanu Reeves is just a gem of a human being. A phenomenal actor too of course. I'll always remember how riveted I was watching Speed as kid. I can't decide if I like those movies or the Matrix movies more.
How can someone so famous be so low key and humble?

If you like John Wick, I think you'll also dig Nobody.

With Saul Goodman! I remember seeing the trailer and being pretty stoked, but it slipped my memory more recently. Thanks for the reminder!
I've been revisiting some old favourites like The Hunger Games lately.

Wait, "Keanu Reeves" and "good actor" in the same sentence? Did you see Much Ado About Nothing?

I remember long ago, pre-Matrix, Keanu was getting heavily critiqued and he said something like, I know I’m not the smartest guy on the planet or the best actor. I wish people would just leave me alone.
I think know that’s when I started to like him.

Has anyone seen Dave Chappelle’s new show, and possibly his last on Netflix? ‘The Closer’
I loved it. It has 2-3 jokes in it that I find to be just wrong, and offensive.
But, I loved the show. If he puts out more, I’ll be watching and enjoying.
