Meh. The more likely explanation, IMHO, is that Trump is really good at changing narratives. We've gone in just a few weeks from the media blaming the Russians for influencing the elections and loudly calling for investigations to the same people defending the sanctity of the vote and calling for any investigation of voter fraud to be shut down.
Trump is really good at megalomaniacal self aggrandizement and narcissistic buffoonery.....and accosting women. I am crossing my fingers that that his ridiculously immature personality doesn't get in the way of his policies (some of which I think address important issues). Nevertheless, on the topic of fake news, Trump is responsible for throwing out a lot of bombastic hearsay and unsubstantiated rumors as the story linked above demonstrates.
