Riptoes book is great.
Front squats will be easier on many people's body in the long run (use crossed grip if you real name isn't gumby)
Cleans (or one arm dumbell snatches) are great fun, and can be done even without wrist flexibility. I just end up with my wrists bent back as far as I can (a little less than 90 degrees). I'm only using light weights. And you'll need coaching, I'm not sure I'd recommend anyone do either the squats or either of these without coaching.
