I'm no NeoCon apologist, but we'd all probably all be Communist right now if we hadn't engaged their stated intentions to expand their sphere of influence.  Or worse, not going up against the Nazi's.

We may have lost many battles, but we seemed to have finally won the war.  The world is more democratic capitalistic now than at anytime in recorded history.  That is something to celebrate!

I'm not sure what Vietnam has to do with this. Despite our use of Napalm and a whole lot of other nasty stuff, we lost, and the commies took over anyway. And after the requisite several million dead, they got over it and Vietnam is doing a bit better now, and we don't have to care about them anymore except for when our corporations build factories there--which they now can do--so we can buy cheap clothes.

Right?

Jordan will execute the attempted suicide bomber ISIS demanded in exchange for sparing the Jordanian pilot's life (before burning him alive) as well as several other Al-Qaeda prisoners at dawn.
The Jordanian government reported the Pilot was killed Jan 6th, before ISIS asked for the prisoner swap. If the report is true, wouldn’t that mean ISIS knew the person that they named in the swap attempt would be kill upon releasing the video of the Jordanian pilot being burned alive. I wonder if they, ISIS, wanted the attempted suicide bomber killed.  This whole incident seems like a big manipulation if the Jan 6th date is correct.  Or ISIS wanted to increase the pressure on the Jordanian government by creating more unrest in the country.
Note that ISIS never promised to release the pilot, and the prisoner release stalled when Jordan demanded proof that the pilot was still alive. The simplest explanation is that ISIS killed the pilot long ago and were seeing how much they could squeeze out of the foreign government before releasing the video. Overall international response to the beheadings has been weak, after all.

In any case, Jordan killed several more than just the woman for good measure, and it sounds like they're not done proving their point.

When I was a kid, ISIS was all about clothes.

Maybe one day, they'll come around. Like Vietnam.

Tyler - ISIS had to know that proof of life would be needed so when you say “how much they could squeeze out of the foreign government”? What were they trying to squeeze out? Not trying to be sarcastic..

According to reports I have read, ISIS demanded the hand over of the female suicide bomber as a precondition for evidence that the pilot was still alive.

The raw video is crazy. (Fox News has it).
Did ISIS go to film school or something?

Someone sent me a link to the unedited version but I can't bring myself to watch it.

I can't either, and I don't plan to.  The bad guys want us to watch it, so I'm not going to.  I got the gist of it from the news accounts.  They'll get theirs one day, one way or another.

The "unedited" version is heavily edited by its makers, MTV 1990s style, but you're probably wise not to watch it. All the disturbing parts are in there, so it's about as graphic as it gets, and somewhat disturbing. I'm actually kind of surprised that the wikipedia page on the pilot led me to Fox and not Al Jazeera. Didn't think a U.S. news outlet whould show this.

I wish Wikipedia wouldn't link to it. But we have a policy against any form of censorship that I think at times trumps commonsense and ordinary decency. I have edited the article in question and thought about taking it out. But I am 98% sure that is a battle I would lose.

One thing is for sure. It completely validates the theory that the pilot was burned because the victims of his bombs were burnt.
I'm not sure what they would have to say about a journalist from a country (Japan) that only gives logistical support to the Allies' effort in the mideast. Maybe beheading is the default punishment when they can't think up something more poetic. Or if you didn't do anything but happen to be born Jewish.

I'm glad that it isn't broadcast on regular tv, but also that it is out there if someone wants to see firsthand what's going on. I remember watching Nick Berg's beheading once upon a time, and it has never left me. I was quite shocked to find that my sister independently watched it. I think we both wanted to see what we couldn't fully believe, and perhaps we also wanted to get angry.

I, for one, am not going to watch it.  Ignorance is bliss.

I think something got overlooked...  Jordan is BOMBING ISIS!!!

I keep asking, but no one answers.  Why aren't we bombing and invading ISIS?  When did we turn into such pussies?

We are bombing ISIS and have been for a while. But there is a pretty strong (for a change) bipartisan reservation over sending in ground troops.

I imagine we probably would if ISIS were invading Mexico or Canada. And in that situation, Jordan wold probably rather sit pretty than help out.
