Well if nothing else at least the IRS, after a brutal week, will finally have something to be happy about. It is almost certain that someone is going to discover in the next 24 hrs that they owe the US Government somewhere north of $150,000,000.00 in taxes.

Only 1 winner. Someone in Florida.

notsheigetz?!
are you going to share it with all of us?
Well, I did win $3.00. Don't suppose that will ruin my life too much.

NOTE: First I heard someone in Florida won it was reading this post so you really. Naturally, I hurried over to the lottery website. The ticket was actually bought at the same grocery store I shop in.

I too like to engage in the thought experiment of what I'd do if I won the lottery.  The funny thing is is that I can't think of any use for the money beyond a certain point.  I'll buy a nice house (though not an excessive 100 room mansion), take a few nice trips to exotic locations, and then what?  Lounge on the beach for the rest of my days?  I'd have to find some issue I'm deeply passionate about and start some kind of charity.  I think it's a good sign to be relatively content with what you have.

I'll refer back to my earlier post about the 60 minutes piece on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Even 590 Million wouldn't put you close to their territory but you could do a lot of good with it. Call it the "Rhymenocerous Foundation". Personally, I think that would be a great way to live out the rest of my days - a lot better than what I have planned with my meager resources.

This is exactly why I don't want to win.  Same reason I quit my job - taxes are too damn high.  Sure  leaving something on the table, but it's really the principle of the thing.

If I had won...

Reporter: So, what are you gonna do with the money?

Me: ...

<snip>

5 minutes later...

Reporter: Permanent Portfolio?  Huh?  ???
